Nokia, a name that takes you back nearly a decade back when it was the only company dominating the cell phone market. After it’s much depressing departure from the smartphone world, the brand is yet again ready to sculpt its name but, what Nokia-HMD Global is bringing will be enough to do so?
A recent announcement and television advertisement confirmed Nokia will be holding a launch event for it’s all three model Nokia 3, 5 and 6 in India and a leaked list containing the price of all three devices suggested they will be priced at INR 9990, 12990 and 15990 respectively. The re-entry has created a stir but should Nokia be excited about its product? With the smartphone market progressing fast and manufacturers like Xiaomi, Huawei, Lenovo, Coolpad and many more, defining the budget segment daily bringing more and more at less price. Let’s take a loot at what Nokia has to offer. Not forget the brand is a banner working under HMD Global.
At 9990 Rs., Nokia is offering an 8.5 mm device with 5.0-inch HD screen of 720×1280 resolution which seems pretty much outdated especially when FHD devices are easily available at 8K. Then there’s a 1.4 GHz MediaTek MT6737 octa-core processor with 2 GB of Ram and 16 GB of inbuilt storage that can be further be expanded using a microSD card. There are more power capable processors out there in less price, a Mediatek MT6754 would have been much better with 3 Gigs of RAM. Even the camera department lacks flare with only an 8 MP sensor at the back with LED flash 8MP at front. These are not the specs a company who has been struggling to make a comeback on sentimental basis would want to offer and Nokia omitted a fingerprint scanner which is a must to have a feature in 2017 smartphone if you really wish to sell it. Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3S Prime, Redmi 4 and 4A, Lenovo K6 Power, Le Eco, Coolpad, all these devices cost almost same or less but, offer competitive characteristics and tbh Nokia 3 stands nowhere near it.
Nokia 5 and 6, on the other hand, proposes decent yet not applaudable specifications not just in terms of aesthetics but also a performance with both smartphones running Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset clocking 1.4 GHz of processing speed. The former comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt memory while the latter gets 3 and 4 GB RAM variant along with 32 and 64Gigs of storage. The duo supports microSD card slot and dual nano sim. The photography section gets better here with Nokia 5 getting a 13MP rear shooter with PDAF and dual LED flash while the front boasts 8MP. Nokia 6, the high-end device from Nokia HMD sleeves, flaunts the bigger better 16MP sensor with PDAF and dual tone LED whereas the front panel gets to wear the same 8 MP selfie snapper. With prices like 12,990 and 15,990 and the old latched emotions with the brand, the company may garner benefits and pose some serious competition.
