In yesterday’s contest, RCB lost their fourth match to Rising Pune Supergiant. Although RCB is not known for losing at the homeground of Bangalore team, M Chinnaswamy. The team couldn’t chase the target of 162 runs set by the RPS side. RCB is regarded as the best chasing team in IPL due to the presence of star batsmen fleet – Chris Gayle, AB DeVilliers, and Virat Kohli.
Looks like RCB is having a hard time at the last spot in the IPL 2017. The team which was the second runner-up in the last edition of IPL is struggling hard to get their second win after 5 matches. It was speculated before the start of the IPL that RCB can lose first few games due to injuries of Kohli, AB DeVilliers, and KL Rahul, but it looks like the team is still struggling after they have joined the playing XI squad. Despite Kohli’s knock of 62 runs in his first game this season, RCB lost that match to Mumbai Indians.
But nevertheless, there were some moments from the match which were a treat for everyone’s eyes. One of them was Dhoni’s enormous six out of the stadium (must’ve dropped on Harsh Goenka’s head). Dhoni has been the target of various criticisms these days. First, Harsh Goenka, brother of RPS owner, Sanjiv Goenka took a dig at Dhoni by praising Steve Smith’s captaincy and mentioning that Smith has clearly overshadowed Dhoni. And recently, former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly and former Aussie skipper, Michael Clarke, raised questions on Dhoni’s T20 performance. Dhoni has also started gaining support from around the world. Virender Sehwag stood in support of Dhoni saying that IPL is not a platform to judge the performance of a batsman of such a stature.
After the match, Kohli said, “Not an easy thing to find momentum. We don’t deserve to win if we play like this. Honestly, the last match we fought really hard, today let the game drift away right in front of our eyes. If we lost without intent, it’s not a nice feeling.” Kohli is aware of the fact that winning the first games if quite necessary for reaching the top spot in the end. RCB stood second in the last year’s IPL edition and Virat Kohli was the man of the tournament because of his mind-boggling performance in the last season.
In the second contest yesterday, Mumbai Indians registered their fourth consecutive win in the IPL 10, by beating Gujarat Lions by 6 wickets. Mumbai Indians is one team which is going very strong after their first loss. The team is in full momentum and it seems like they are looking forward to winning the IPL trophy for the third time. Nitish Rana from MI was awarded the man of the match for his knock of 53 runs off 36 balls. Rana has been very consistent from the last three games. The domestic player is a batsman for Delhi team for national level and he joined the Mumbai Indians squad in 2015.
One of the weird incidents of IPL 10 took place yesterday when Gujarat Lions batsman, Aaron Finch wasn’t able to play the match for a bizarre reason. Finch had to sit out of the match against MI, as his kit didn’t reach Mumbai on time. The kit was to be delivered to Wankhede stadium from Rajkot, where they played their last match. GL captain, Suresh Raina revealed the reason at the time of the toss. Although Finch could’ve borrowed the kit from another player but it is speculated that the player is always under certain conditions by the sponsors so maybe he isn’t allowed to play with some other company’s gears.
In the post-match presentation, Nitish Rana said, “I think I am in a very good zone. If I want to continue this form it is very important for me to have different gears while batting. I am very clear about my game, I know what to do and what not to do. Thanks to Rohit and to Mahela for showing the confidence in me.” The orange cap (most runs) is now possessed by Rana with a total 193 runs followed by KKR captain, Gautam Gambhir with 182 runs.
In today’s contest, Delhi Daredevils will take on Kolkata Knight Riders at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium Delhi, and Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Kings XI Punjab at Rajiv Gandhi International stadium Hyderabad.
