In another decision-making for the Indian cricket, Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) has decided to start the hunt for the new head coach for the team. Current head coach Anil Kumble will step down from the responsibility after the upcoming Champions Trophy. Anil Kumble joined Indian clan as head coach in 2016 after much discussions in the BCCI board. It was a tough call for the selectors to choose between Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble but eventually, Anil Kumble emerged as the head coach of the Indian side.

The Indian team has reached big milestones under his coaching. Out of the 16 test matches that the team has played under his coaching, India has won 11 and 4 ended as a draw. They lost only one match to Australia during the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Virat Kohli has also enjoyed Kumble’s presence in the team.

It has also been speculated that maybe something isn’t right between the management and Kumble but nothing is legit for now as these can be just rumors. These are coming from the fact that Kumble isn’t given any extension for his profile which is given earlier to the coaches of the team. The coaches who prove to be successful for the team’s performance are often given the extension automatically by the management but we don’t know what happened here. The Indian team has been playing good in ODIs and T20s as well under him. India even retained the top position in the ICC Test rankings this year under Anil Kumble’s stint.

The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee which consists of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly will be given responsibility to select the new head coach of Indian team. Despite a strong connection between captain Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri, who was the director of the team when the team went to Australia for test series, Anil Kumble won the job last year for the head coach job. MS Dhoni stepped down from the captain position in that series. Virat Kohli had a good rapport with Ravi Shastri in 2015-16.

In a statement released by BCCI today, it said, “The process has been initiated during the term of the current coach, Mr. Anil Kumble concludes with the Champions trophy. Present Head Coach, Mr. Anil Kumble will be a direct entry for the process.” The Champions Trophy 2017 which will commence on 1st June will end on 18th June after which Kumble’s tenure will be over.
