In yet another huge news from the Indian football, The Indian national football team has reached a milestone of entering top 100 rankings of FIFA for the first time in 21 years. Despite having millions of football fans in the country, India took so long to start performing at such level in the football world. The national team is now at the 100th spot which was confirmed by the FIFA in the list of rankings released on Thursday. On 6 April this year, the team reached the 101st spot.

Indian football team is now on a winning streak by winning the last 6 matches against Bhutan, Cambodia, Puerto Rico, Laos and Myanmar. The team is gaining such a huge milestone under the training of coach Stephan Constantine. Much credit goes to him for the achievement. Constantine said, “As long as we keep heading up the ladder I am happy. It points out that we are heading in the right direction. There are major matches ahead and we cannot take things lightly. There’s no place for complacency.”

Famously known as ‘Blue Tigers’, the Indian football team is now placed along with Lithuania and Estonia at the 100th spot. India reached this spot last time in the year 1996. The top most rank that the country has ever reached is the 94th rank which they reached in the month of February in 1996. India never passed the 94th rank on the list. Let’s hope they break the record this team and reach many more milestones in the football sector of the country.

Indian football team will now have to focus on playing better so that they can keep themselves at the current spot. It will be hard for them as they don’t have any matches lined up for this month so others teams have the opportunity to move India’s rank. We wish good luck to the Indian football teams and pray for them to achieve many more milestones and may even qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

All India Football Federation general secretary Kushal Das said, “It’s pleasing that we are presently ranked 100. At the same time, we need to stay aware of the challenge in hand. The AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers UAE 2019 are an acid test for us. AIFF has been providing the National Team with the best of exposure and facilities and we expect the Team to keep up the good work.”

India will now face Kyrgyzstan and Lebanon in the month of June this year for the AFC Asian Cup.
