In one of the best innings in this season of the Indian Premier League, the Delhi Daredevils teenager batsman Rishabh Pant delivered an amazing knock of 97 runs off just 43 balls which included 6 fours and 9 sixes. After batting first, Gujarat Lions put up a huge score of 208 runs which DD chased in just 17.3 overs with the efforts of Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant. Both the batsmen did a tremendous job.
This win has picked DD out of the criticism of being called poor at batting. These domestic players are making a big mark in this season of IPL. There are many other domestic players doing an amazing job in this season of IPL like Nitish Rana, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, etc. Pant has lost his father just a few days before the IPL 2017 started. Pant has been praised by some of the most prominent cricketers in India. Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly took to twitter to praise his batting. Even the Big B of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan couldn’t resist praising the 19-year old batsman.
Tendulkar has called Pant’s innings one of the best ever in all the 10 seasons of IPL. While Sehwag said, “Love batsman with tremendous belief in themselves which is backed by a special ability for ball hitting. Extra special today frm Rishabh Pant.” Big B was also left splendid by the DD batsman. You don’t often see Bachchan tweeting about IPL. Rishabh Pant’s innings will not be seen as only good for IPL but we all know that the selectors are looking forward to the team selection for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in England which will start from 1st June 2017.
Right now, DD are at the 6th spot on the points table right now and the last two amazing wins by the team has paved a way for them to enter the playoffs if they win all the next four games. Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab have never won the title in any season till now.
While praising Pant’s performance, one should not overlook Sanju Samson’s knock of 61 runs which helped to give a platform to Pant. Sanju Samson fully assisted Pant for his big shots. He has hit 7 big sixes off his bat. It was raining sixes in Delhi yesterday. Sourav Ganguly has praised both the DD batsmen for their performances which left him speechless. As Pant was about to reach his century, he was at 97 when he tried to pull a ball over the fence for six but unfortunately, the ball sneaked the bat on the outside and was caught behind by Dinesh Kartik. What happened next shook everyone! As the 19-year old was given out, GL skipper Suresh Raina went to the disappointed Pant and praised him for his performance by patting his shoulders and helmet. Pant was quite disappointed with his shot selection as he was just three runs short of a century.
Pant lost his father on April 5 this year, when IPL started. He joined the Delhi Daredevils campaign two days after completing his rituals and responsibilities. His father must be proud of his performances.
In the post-match presentation, Pant said, “Me and Sanju always thought, if we get a bad ball, we will make full use of that. If we get three regularly (consecutively), we will go for the sixes. Most of the times I like to play aggressive, but this was that kind of a wicket where we could play our shots and that’s what we did today. We are taking one match at a time and we are doing good at that. So let’s continue doing that. Thank you so much.”
Delhi Daredevils batsman Karun Nair is leading the team in the last two games as Zaheer Khan is healing himself with the hamstring he attained during a match while delivering his over. He couldn’t ball after 2nd ball of the over which some other bowler completed. Surprisingly, with Nair as the leader, DD is playing a totally different game with some amazing chasing which we have never ever seen before by DD side. Surely, the franchise owners are looking over it.
