Yoga guru Baba Ramdev displayed his wrestling skills as he went one on one with 2008 Olympic Silver medalist Andriy Stadnik in a promotional bout of the Patanjali Powervita Pro Wrestling League (PWL) on Wednesday.
Wearing his typical saffron langot, baba Ramdev played really well and won the bout with 12-0 over Andriy Stadnik, who is well renowned in India because of his wrestling enthusiasm as he had defeated Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar in the Beijing Olympics. When the Ukrainian reached the final, it gave Sushil an opportunity to play and win a bronze medal.
Baba Ramdev walked onto the mat and before the bout began he showed some of his firebrand yoga moves before he actually proceeds to his friendly match with Stadnik. He performed ‘ Surya Namaskar’ before his bout. First, he earned 4 points and then he quickly grabbed 7 points.
Stadnik is a 34-year-old former European champion and he did not even try any of his moves and he was not playing seriously at all except once when he tried to take himself out of baba Ramdev’s grip with a flip. Since it was a promotional bout, Stadnik did not respond back in a real wrestling manner, instead, he allowed baba Ramdev to have his way and so did the referees. Almost after two minutes, the former champion surrendered.
After the bout baba Ramdev added that in the coming future wrestling will excel in the upcoming years and will become one of the most followed sports in the world. This was not the first time that baba Ramdev had challenged some wrestler before he also challenged Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar to have bout with him on the occasion of 20th anniversary of his ashram in Haridwar.
This promotional bout between baba Ramdev and Stadnik took place during the second semi-final between Punjab Royals and Mumbai Maharathi. Pro wrestling League is sponsored by Patanjali Ayurved Limited which is owned by baba Ramdev only.
After the bout was over baba Ramdev chanted ” Bharat Mata ki Jai! Vande Matram!”
