Effect of decision on the Jio users:-

The company has also mentioned that people who have already joined the Jio prime membership and subscribed the offer will not be affected by this decision i.e. they still can avail the benefits but unfortunately, rest of the users will not be able to subscribe it.

There was a rumor that TRAI had asked Reliance Jio to end prime membership program, which was extended for 15 days but the company has put an end to rumors by announcing that users can still become Jio prime members till 15th April by paying Rs 99 and enjoy other exciting offers. According to some sources, Reliance Jio has got more than 100 million subscribers within few months.

Why TRAI instructed Reliance Jio to end Summer Surprise offer?

The move by TRAI will provide relief to Reliance Jio’s rivals like Bharti Airtel,  Idea Cellular, and  Vodafone India, which are struggling in the telecom industry since the Jio has been launched. TRAI has taken this step due to increasing pressure from the incumbent telecom companies and the telecom sector regarding 2 promotions -Happy New Year and Welcome offer, which can lead to decrease in government revenue. TRAI has mentioned that it will announce new quality norms for mobile services, including guidelines for advanced technologies like VoLTE very soon.

According to Rajan Mathews, the director general of COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India), representing Idea, Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone, With this move, hopefully, rationality will be seen in the pricing of tariffs now. Prashant Singhal, the telecom leader of consultancy firm EY, has mentioned that Now, the revenue stabilization will come soon, which was expected to arrive in the upcoming quarters.
