Para-athlete Suvarna Raj had been forced to sleep on the floor while traveling in a train. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has passed an order to inquire about the matter.
As per the statement, given by the para-athlete Suvarna Raj who won two medals at the Thailand Para Tennis Open 2013, she was allotted an upper birth in the Nagpur-Nizamuddin Garib Rath Express, although the athlete had requested for the lower birth.
Even after she requested to get the lower birth and after the refusal of the request, she had no option but to sleep on the floor. The worst case was when she requested the fellow passenger to exchange the seat, he refused to do so and then she had to sleep on the floor. She said, “When I asked fellow passengers to exchange seat with me, they refused bluntly.”
Suvarna Raj had an infection at the young age which leads to 90 percent disability But she continued her dreams and reach to this level of her life.
In an interview with the news agency ANI, she said: “I want to meet Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu and tell him about the problem we have to face while travelling in trains.”
When Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu got to know about this incident he took to Tweeter to show his point of view on the incident and tweeted back to the news agency ANI that, “Have ordered an inquiry into the issue. We are serious about ensuring smooth travel for Divyangs.”
Suvarna Prabhu doesn’t seem to be satisfied with the Prabhu’s reply as she wants something else, she replied: “I don’t want any inquiry, I want a permanent solution for persons with disability.”
Suvarna Ral is also very hurt with the kind of reaction and reply she received from the co-passenger. Her only concern now is to get the permanent solution for this problem which might every disabled person face while commuting.
