A new feather going to be added in India’s rich glory as longest river bridge in India i.e. 9.15 km long Dhola-Sadiya bridge over the river of the Brahmaputra. The design of the bridge is such that it is capable of withstanding a 60-tonne movement of military battle tank weight will be inaugurated by our honorable minister Narendra Modi in Assam on May 26.
This bridge is 3.55 km longer than the Bandra-Worli sea link which is in Mumbai. In addition to this, the Bridge would offer the easy access to a population of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh with rail connectivity particularly in Northeast and also an attempt to fulfill the requirement of defense.
Evidently, while talking to media, Sarbananda Sonowal, chief Minister of Assam, “The prime minister will dedicate the strategically important bridge to the nation on May 26. It will bolster the road connectivity in the Northeast as the bridge will be used by people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh besides defense forces extensively.”
The construction of this bridge started in the year 2011 the project amount to Rs. 950 crore. In conjunction to this, the bridge is situated 540 km away from the capital of Assam, Dispur and 300 km away from Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. Moreover, the aerial distance is 100 km less to the Chinese border. Mr. Sonowal told, “Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have huge strategic value to the country. Since the bridge is located close to our border with China, it will help the quick movement of military troops and artillery in times of conflict.”
It is pertinent to note that as for now, the transportation between two banks of the rivers is carried via waterways. When the bridge will be inaugurated and open to the public, it will reduce the travel distance between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam by approximately four hours. On the top of all, this bridge will also help the public to reach the airport in Dibrugarh and nearest railway station as in Arunachal Pradesh there is no civilian airport.
As matter of fact, in the Northeast region, this bridge is built in public-private partnership with the construction organization and is one of the key projects of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The attempt of construction of the bridge is to improve the connectivity among the various region.
