Recently, High Court Judge of Rajasthan suggested that the cow is announced as the national animal of India he expressed his point of view on the national bird of India peacock, as he explained both the cow and animal as divine. The Judge compared the cow and peacock while describing why cow deserves national animal status.
The high court judge Mahesh Chandra Sharma while interacting with reporters said, “The peacock is celibate and that’s why it is worn by Lord Krishna on his forehead. Similarly, the cow has many divine qualities.” He further added, “The Peacock is a lifelong Brahmachari (celibate). It never has sex with the peahen. The peahen gets pregnant after swallowing the tears of the peacock.”
Justice Sharma suggested cow must be respected, on the other hand, he also suggested that the state government should fix the penalty for cow slaughter should be for a lifetime. He also added, the Cheif Secretary, Rajasthan’s senior most officer, should co-operate and coordinate with the center.
While talking to media he further added, “Nepal is a Hindu nation and has declared the cow as its national animal…It is expected from the state government that they should take action to get a legal entity for the cow in this country.” He made this statement after he heard the compliance report on the control and adequate management of cow shelter near Jaipur. In conjunction to this, the cow is a holy animal in India and slaughtering cow is naturally hurts the sentiments of Hindu religion.
Justice Sharma said, “Cow is the basis if the spirituality of all the Hindus and keeping this belief in mind, such direction were issued. Even Nepal had declared cow as the national animal. Uttarakhand HC has recently said that River Ganga and Yamuna should be declared as a legal person. Similarly, cows should be given that status.”
Justice Sharma further said that in his 140-page judgment, he has quoted all the Vedas: Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, and Atharvaveda, moreover, Mahabharata and Ramayana, to proof the importance of the cow. Justice Sharma said,“I have cited all these holy books to show how important cow is in our ancient literature. I have even quoted the Gita. This verdict is a call of the soul and even though it is not binding on all the other states except Rajasthan, I hope other states follow this verdict.”
While continuing his description Justice Sharma said, “There is no substitute for cow milk. We live on it. A cow is useful even after the death. We need its urine for medicinal purposes. Its bones are useful even for tantric purposes. These suggestions that I have made are from my soul.”
