Air India showing its human face as it allowed three young Bangladeshi citizens to flew free of charge, as they are suffering from serious muscular dystrophy and they needed to go to Mumbai hospital for their treatment. Air India allowed these three patients along with three companions along with them to flew free of cost just for the sake of humanity. Not only this but Air India also made sure that after their treatment they can fly back from Mumbai by Air India free of charge.
These three young patients took the Air India flight from Kolkata to Mumbai, three of the patients were accompanying by three of their relatives who also flew with them and Air India assured them that they can come back to Kolkata by Air India flight free of charge after their treatment.
According to Air India Media release, AI-773 took off from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport Kolkata with six Bangladeshi citizens along with the other Indian passengers, This act by Air India has shown a new ray of hope to the other patients who are suffering from the rare disease named Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
The Patients were given complete support as the officials provided them wheelchairs and also all three patients were provided with three individual attendants. They were handed over the boarding cards by senior Air India officials.
The family members of these three patients made an appeal to the King of Indian airways Air India CMD Ashwani Lohani by a Mumbai-based neurosurgeon Alok Sharma, who has offered to treat Abdus (24), Shorab (8), Rahinul (14), all three are suffering from a rare disease called Muscular Dystrophy.
All three are suffering from this rare disease Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy by birth. This is very rare disease and it is a genetic disorder which causes progressive muscle degeneration and patients rarely live beyond the age of 30.
These three patients came into the limelight when the family members of these three patients pleaded the Bangladeshi Government for the mercy killing of the three as they were failing to continue with their treatment due to their financial conditions at home. But, who can go beyond the destiny, there was something else written in their destiny as the Meditourz-a Mumbai-based organization specializing in treating such rare diseases who came to help them in collaboration with NeuroGen – a brain and spine Institute located at Navi Mumbai raised their concern for these three patients and showed them a lantern in their dark and hopeless path of difficulties.
A renowned neurosurgeon, specialize in treating neurological disorder Dr. Alok Sharma, offered free treatment to these patients at his hospital and research center NeuroGen located at Navi Mumbai.
A request was made to Air India to allow these three patients to fly to Mumbai for their treatment from Kolkata and after treatment back to Kolkata from Mumbai along with their companions. The Bangladesh Government and Human Rights Group from Bangladesh has also taken great care and made sure that all the people including patients and their relatives would not have to face any kind of trouble in the visa process and during traveling as well.
