Why Humans Have Emotion And What Triggers You To Feel?

    Why Do We Feel
    Why Do We Feel

Mankind is a result of long period of evolution and during those periods different changes came out to be, may it be physical or mental and the reason why Homo Sapiens survived through all odds and continues to be is coded inside. So, before we further proceed our boring historical and scientific approach, let us begin with asking you some stupid questions. Have you ever been through a situation where you wanted to cry out loud or punch someone on the face or laugh like you’re gonna die? Well, of course, you have. What sort of idiotic question was that anyway? Humans are comprised of emotions and feelings but have you wondered why you feel something or why humans have emotions? The question was one of the most discussed topics and why not it was something that drives an individual.

Emotion has been defined as a feeling derived from one’s circumstances. It could be anger, joy or sorrow. It may be further categorized as pleasant and unpleasant. Such as feeling happy or excited or affectionate, these are considered bright or positive ones and anger or anxiety are termed as negative.

It is being argued that emotions are part of evolution and some say it has always been there since the life form came into existence. It could be hypothesized that emotions grew just like limbs. A research suggested that emotions take place in the subcortical regions of the brain, however, the neocortex controls what to trigger and when. The answer to why humans get to have emotions in the first place perhaps can never be answered properly but how it evolved can be speculated.

It has been found out that that topic was under examination by a person none other than the one who gave the theory of evolution, Charles Darwin. He noticed that not only humans but animals too express various behavioral traits based on emotions, the same he published in “The Expression of emotion in man and animals.”

Shuffling through all the researches, one thing that was found in common was these emotions helped our ancestors survive all the roughs and toughs. For instance, let’s say strolling through the woods one of our ancestors encountered a boar. For all we know, boars are dangerous and could cost you your life too. Initially, that ancestor confronted the Boar with all their might and faced certain defeats, let’s assume he was left with his arm and leg broken. Whenever he may have gone to the woods he would have recalled his previous experience and that possibility of getting one on one with boars may have sent a chill down his spine. Another question that arises out of this speculated theory is how do you know if it is valid? Well, we are here, aren’t we?

While formulating this hypothesis another thing that kept revolving around our minds was what if all that we feel today is a result of experience. What if that day our ancestor hadn’t come across that Boar, what if he had won, what if he never had to feel fear? Probably we wouldn’t be here. The question where emotions came from stands firm and unshaken and while the different group of researchers has their different hypothesis or theories, it is certain that emotion is a necessary tool for survival and it originated under different circumstances.

It has been found out that human faces have around 60 expressions based on emotions, although only 6 are basic universal ones that are, Joy, surprise, anger, sadness, disgust, and fear. Not only are these basic and universal but the triggering factors are also similar in most of the humans. You see something gloomy, say a dog is about to die and you see his owner crying, it will make you sad. If someone was beating his pet dog, it would make you furious/angry, you see a pet dog attacking and injuring his owner, you’ll fear because you too own one, similarly, whenever you undergo circumstances resulting in a different emotional outcome.

Emotions also help us in socializing and probably the variation in human beings separate them from animals. It keeps you motivated and helps to achieve your goals and the same thing pulls you away. What you study, you dream or eat or watch or hear all concludes to emotional outburst varying individual to individual. If nothing less, emotions are the key tool in your arsenal for survival.
