With celebrities united against the assault on Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Rajasthan and its silence on the recent tragedy in Kashmir surfaced the double standards of Bollywood.
The industry where dreams come true have been entertaining us since long. It was this industry who taught the public more history than any book could, leaving a mark of patriotism and unity. It has contributed massively to get India recognized on global levels with the actors/actress starring in the foreign movies. But, in recent years it has shown the two sided face it was hiding for long.
Taking into account the recent incidents, it would not be wrong to call Bollywood the new ‘Two-Face’. On January 25th, an avalanche in Kashmir came hauling tons of snow burying people and an army camp on its way. 24 people died including 10 Indian soldiers. The body of deceased have been recovered. Many are still presumed dead or trapped inside as rescue operations are underway. When all the country mourned and expressed its condolences towards the disaster, Bollywood remained calm. For an instance let us consider it obvious and say Bollywood doesn’t indulge in such practices and it is not what we are calling it. But, find out ahead.
A couple of days later, renowned director and producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali was assaulted by a group of attackers on the sets of Padmavati in Jaipur. The cowardice act of the attackers was a sign of raising vandals in India. The whole film industry came in unison to condemn the aggression on Mr. Bhansali, tweets followed by tweets and why not they all belong to the same industry of movie making. But, don’t they all belong to the same country? The solidarity of this industry against the act on a director is not bothering what is bugging that nobody came out to console the adversity on Kashmir region affected from the snow barrage.
The very soldiers who lay their lives just to protect the land we live in, never demand despite the cruel condition of nature they thrive in a few words to comfort couldn’t hurt anybody. The constitution doesn’t force anyone to express their opinion on every matter nor it restricts, hence, the freedom of expression. Words are known to be working miracle and in the country, so diversified words matter.
The Bollywood industry should take it this way, what if the very audience refuse to watch movies made by them or songs or any response to anything they work so hard for, that wouldn’t go well, would that? Because that every viewer matters, we people are the reason their industry earns, our response boost their moral, it inspires them to do more. Just like that, a few words from a prominent section of society can prove to be a moral booster for the soldiers. It makes them think their efforts are being appreciated. Besides, a country divided is no country at all.
We the people have the power to make or break the government. We together make the biggest democracy in the world and we alone are responsible for the success of your society. It is time together, we all together stand up for our army for the least we could do for them, that a token of appreciation.
