When it comes to delivering fast and quality vehicles, Porsche definitely comes to mind, shocking world ever and then. This year at Goodwood Festival of Speed, the German manufacturer unveiled its legacy builder Porsche 911GT2 RS and guess what, its faster than ever.
Porsche 918 Spyder claimed the Nurburgring circuit in around seven minutes, however, the officials claim that all new 911GT2 RS will shatter the record for sure. Powering the supercar is a 3.8-liter flat engine with Biturbo that delivers mighty 700PS along with 750 Nm of peak torque. The power unit was derived from its predecessor and is now tuned to produce more horses and torque. Even the GT’s double clutch 7-speed transmission is customized for transfer power more efficiently than before. This spins the rear wheel drive to achieve a 0-100 km/h feat in mere 2.8 seconds. Now, there aren’t many cars out there with such staggering figures. Not just that with a top speed of 340 km/h, the German unicorn has come head to head with 918 Spyder.
The whole car weighs less than 1500 kilos with racing chassis, presumably made up of carbon fiber and lightweight aluminum to keep the pounds to the minimum. The supercar even gets a rear axle steering for more precision at corners and better handling. The designer had tough job making the car lighter and as there wasn’t much to shed from the already perfect car, they thought of replacing few parts such as the new lighter titanium exhaust vents that are 7-8 kgs lighter than traditional ones, the wheels are made up of magnesium alloy and the solid roof and bonnet are now carbon fibre. In the racing world where even a thousand of a second counts, speed and precision is everything and that is what 911 GT2 RS promises. With Ultra High-Performance tires ensure grip while the dynamic rear wing assures downforce and if a racer feels like putting everything to a stop, there are Porsche’s in-house composite carbon ceramic breaks.
The manufacturer didn’t put emphasis only on performance but luxury as well. The interior of Porsche 911 GT2 RS comes fitted with Alcantara red and black leather with red outlining here and there. The interior parts too are made up of carbon fiber if not much the transformation must have lost some serious weight.
Porsche 911 GT2 RS will be competing against recently launched Lamborghini Huracan Perfomante, Mercedes AMG GT and Ferrari’s upcoming 488 GTB. Pricing is yet to be announced but it sure won’t be costing as much as 918 Spyder.
