German luxury carmaker BMW has launched the seventh generation 5 Series in India today. 5 Series has been one of the best selling BMW rides in the country and also around the world. Taking the styling cues from the elderly 7 Series, the new 5 Series is set on an all-new platform. The car is more spacious and lighter than the previous 5 Series. The previous 5 series cars had the best time on the sales charts for the company.
Taking about the 5 Series 2017, The car is launched today in Mumbai in the presence of the company’s brand ambassador for India, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. BMW India claims that the 5 Series alone has given them around 30% of the total sales since their entry into Indian market. The first look at the new 5 Series gives you a glimpse of the new 7 Series luxurious ride by the company as the styling is quite similar. The wrap-around headlight and the kidney grille design are being taken straight from the 7 series while the rear profile still feels like the previous 5 Series. The new 5 Series is also more technologically advanced than the previous one.
As far as the power is concerned, BMW is offering 3 engine variants to choose from – 1 petrol engine and 2 diesel engines. The 530i variant which has a petrol motor is powered by a 2-litre engine consisting of 4 cylinders which is capable of generating 248bhp of horsepower at 350Nm of torque, whereas, the 2-litre diesel engine, which is 520d model, is capable of generating 187bhp of horsepower at 400Nm of torque. The most powerful trim of the new 5 Series is the 530d diesel powered engine which has a bigger 3-litre engine consisting of 6 cylinders and gives the car the capability to churn out 261bhp of horsepower at 620Nm of torque. This variant is quickest of them all and can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds. A perfect blend of luxury and power.
At the launch event today, Vikram Pawah, President, BMW India said, “More than 19,000 BMW 5 Series in India have been sold and 8 million units worldwide, By 2018, BMW India will increase its dealerships to 50 outlets from the existing 41 facilities. Transparency during aftersales will also be taken care of.”
The company has started taking the pre-bookings for the car at Rs 2-3 lakhs and the deliveries will begin once the GST will be implemented by the govt. The price for the car revealed by the company won’t be affected by the GST. The lowest range model is the BMW 530i Sport Line which is priced at Rs 49.90 lakh followed by the BMW 520d Sport Line at the same price, whereas, the 520d Luxury Line and 530d M Sport are priced at Rs 53.60 lakh and Rs 61.30 lakh, respectively. BMW 5 Series 2017 will be competing with the Audi A6, Volvo S90, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Jaguar XF.
